\&\fB.deb\fP\-formatet är Debians binära paketformat. Denna manualsida beskriver
det \fBgamla\fP formatet som används före Debian 0.93. Se \fBdeb\fP(5) för
detaljerad information om det nya formatet.

Filen innehåller två rader av formatinformation som ASCII\-text, följt av två
sammaslagna gzip\-packade ustar\-filer.

Den första raden i filen är formatversionsnumret utfyllt till åtta siffror,
och är \fB0.939000\fP för alla arkiv i det gamla formatet.

Nästa rad är en decimalsträng (utan inledande nollor) som anger längden på
den första gzip\-packade tar\-filen.

Båda dessa rader avslutas med ett ensamt radbrytningstecken.

Den första tar\-filen innehåller kontrollinformationen, lagrade som ett antal
vanliga filer. Filen \fBcontrol\fP måste finnas, eftersom den innehåller
grundläggande kontrollinformation.

In some very old archives, the files in the control tarfile may optionally
be in a \fBDEBIAN\fP subdirectory. In that case, the \fBDEBIAN\fP subdirectory
will be in the control tarfile too, and the control tarfile will have only
files in that directory. Optionally the control tarfile may contain an entry
for ‘\fB.\fP’, that is, the current directory.
