パッケージに関する大半の情報は control
ファイルにあるが、システム全体の整合性を保つために、メンテナではなく、ディストリビューション側の管理者によって一元管理されている情報もある。そうした情報が
override ファイルに存在する。

override ファイルは、空白文字を区切り文字とした簡単な形式になっている。コメントも可能である (\fB#\fP 以降がコメント)。

\fIpackage\fP はパッケージ名である。override ファイルにあるがバイナリパッケージのツリーにはないパッケージ名のエントリは無視される。

available in the .deb. The allowed values are specific to each distribution
archive.
