.SH SYNOPSIS
.LP
.nf
#include <sys/socket.h>
.P
int getsockname(int \fIsocket\fP, struct sockaddr *restrict \fIaddress\fP,
 socklen_t *restrict \fIaddress_len\fP);
.fi
.SH DESCRIPTION
The
\fIgetsockname\fR()
function shall retrieve the locally-bound name of the specified socket,
store this address in the
.BR sockaddr
structure pointed to by the
.IR address
argument, and store the length of this address in the object pointed
to by the
.IR address_len
argument.
.P
The
.IR address_len
argument points to a
.BR socklen_t
object which on input specifies the length of the supplied
.BR sockaddr
structure, and on output specifies the length of the stored address.
If the actual length of the address is greater than the length of the
supplied
.BR sockaddr
structure, the stored address shall be truncated.
.P
If the socket has not been bound to a local name, the value stored in
the object pointed to by
.IR address
is unspecified.
.SH "RETURN VALUE"
Upon successful completion, 0 shall be returned, the
.IR address
argument shall point to the address of the socket, and the
.IR address_len
argument shall point to the length of the address. Otherwise, \-1
shall be returned and
.IR errno
set to indicate the error.
.SH ERRORS
The
\fIgetsockname\fR()
function shall fail if:
.TP
.BR EBADF
The
.IR socket
argument is not a valid file descriptor.
.TP
.BR ENOTSOCK
The
.IR socket
argument does not refer to a socket.
.TP
.BR EOPNOTSUPP
The operation is not supported for this socket's protocol.
.P
The
\fIgetsockname\fR()
function may fail if:
.TP
.BR EINVAL
The socket has been shut down.
.TP
.BR ENOBUFS
Insufficient resources were available in the system to complete the
function.
