<h3 id="par_idN10681">User interface</h3>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_idN10685" role="paragraph"><ahelp hid=".">Select the language used for the user interface, for example menus, dialogs, help files. You must have installed at least one additional language pack or a multi-language version of %PRODUCTNAME.</ahelp></paragraph>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id0125201009445727" role="paragraph">The "Default" entry selects the language of the user interface for the operating system. If this language is not available in the %PRODUCTNAME installation, the language of the %PRODUCTNAME installation is the default language.</paragraph>

<h3 id="hd_id3154751">Locale setting</h3>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id3157958" role="paragraph"><ahelp hid="cui/ui/optlanguagespage/localesetting">Specifies the locale setting of the country setting. This influences settings for numbering, currency and units of measure.</ahelp></paragraph>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id0125201009445950" role="paragraph">The "Default" entry selects the locale which name is reported by the operating system.</paragraph>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id3156410" role="paragraph">A change in this field is immediately applicable. However, some formats that were formatted by default change only if the document is newly loaded.</paragraph>

<h3 id="hd_id3147209">Default currency</h3>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id3145120" role="paragraph"><ahelp hid="cui/ui/optlanguagespage/currencylb">Specifies the default currency that is used for the currency format and the currency fields.</ahelp> If you change the locale setting, the default currency changes automatically.</paragraph>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id3148491" role="paragraph">The default entry applies to the currency format that is assigned to the selected locale setting.</paragraph>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id3157909" role="paragraph">A change in <emph>Default currency</emph> field will be transmitted to all open documents and will lead to corresponding changes in the dialogs and icons that control the currency format in these documents.</paragraph>

<h3 id="par_idN106DE">Decimal separator key - Same as locale setting</h3>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_idN106E2" role="paragraph"><ahelp hid=".">Specifies to use the decimal separator key that is set in your system when you press the respective key on the number pad.</ahelp></paragraph>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_idN106F1" role="paragraph">If this checkbox is activated, the character shown after "Same as locale setting" is inserted when you press the key on the number pad. If this checkbox is not activated, the character that your keyboard driver software provides is inserted.</paragraph>

<h3 id="hd_id31472109">Date acceptance patterns</h3>
<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id3145121" role="paragraph"><ahelp hid=".">Specifies the date acceptance patterns for the current locale. Calc spreadsheet and Writer table cell input needs to match locale dependent date acceptance patterns before it is recognized as a valid date.</ahelp></paragraph>
<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id381606257267459">If you type numbers and characters that correspond to the defined date acceptance patterns in a table cell, and then move the cursor outside of the cell, %PRODUCTNAME will automatically recognize and convert the input to a date, and format it according to the locale setting.</paragraph>
<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id391606257292899">The initial pattern(s) in <emph>Date acceptance patterns</emph> are determined by the locale (set in <emph>Locale setting</emph>), but you can modify these default patterns, and add more patterns. Use <keycode>;</keycode> to separate each pattern.</paragraph>
<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id261606302453895">Patterns can be composed according to the following rules:</paragraph>

<paragraph id="par_id941606302524110" role="listitem">A pattern must start with <emph>D</emph>, <emph>M</emph>, or <emph>Y</emph>, and include at least two items, with at least one separator between each one.</paragraph>
<paragraph id="par_id961606302527780" role="listitem">A pattern may also include all three, in any order.</paragraph>

<paragraph xml-lang="en-US" id="par_id3157939" role="listitem"><emph>Y</emph> means year, <emph>M</emph> means month, and <emph>D</emph> means day, regardless of which locale is set. Each can only be used once in a pattern.</paragraph>

<paragraph id="par_id601606302514959" role="listitem"><keycode>.</keycode> <keycode>-</keycode> <keycode>:</keycode> <keycode>/</keycode> <keycode>,</keycode> can be used as separators between and after <emph>D</emph>, <emph>M</emph>, and <emph>Y</emph>.</paragraph>
<paragraph id="par_id621606303306587" role="listitem">Any combination of separators can be used, and more than one separator can be used between <emph>D</emph>, <emph>M</emph>, and <emph>Y</emph>, but the input must match the separator pattern exactly for recognition.</paragraph>

<paragraph id="par_id621606303767851" role="listitem">Patterns can combine different separators, and may include a trailing separator.</paragraph>
<paragraph role="listitem" id="par_id151606303867002">Examples of valid patterns are: <literal>D,Y ; Y-M ; M.D.Y ; D-M/Y ; M.D.</literal></paragraph>

<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id181606257326394">If you change the <emph>Locale setting</emph>, the date acceptance pattern will be reset to the new locale default, and any user-defined modifications or additions will be lost.</paragraph>
<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id821606257357323">In addition to the explicit patterns defined in the edit box, input matching the <literal>Y-M-D</literal> pattern is implicitly recognized and converted automatically to a date. Input that starts from 1 to 31 is not interpreted with this implicit Y-M-D pattern. Since %PRODUCTNAME 3.5, this input is formatted as <literal>YYYY-MM-DD</literal> (ISO 8601).</paragraph>
<paragraph role="paragraph" id="par_id391606902516870">For all patterns, two-digit year input is interpreted according to the setting in <link href="text/shared/optionen/01010600.xhp#sectionyear2digit" name="twodigityears">Tools - Options - General - Year (Two Digits)</link>.</paragraph>
